Senator Megan Dahle, a Republican from Bieber, expressed her disappointment following the Senate Education Committee’s approval of Assembly Bill 84. The bill was passed with a 4-2 vote and introduces new bureaucratic requirements for nonclassroom-based charter schools. According to Dahle, these requirements could lead to the closure of some schools.

“The Capitol today was crowded with families and children who have thrived under this flexible education model, and I am very disappointed that their voices did not carry more weight with the committee,” said Dahle. She emphasized the importance of offering alternative educational paths to meet diverse student needs and highlighted the role of nonclassroom-based charters in public education.

Dahle acknowledged the need for financial oversight but pointed out that Senate Bill 414 addresses this issue in a balanced manner. This bipartisan bill has already passed the Senate and is advancing in the Assembly.

“This fight is not over, and there are several more steps before AB 84 can become law,” Dahle stated. She encouraged continued public engagement on this matter as it progresses through legislative channels.
