Senator Megan Dahle of Bieber, representing the Republican party, expressed her opposition to the majority party’s budget bill by voting against Senate Bill 101, known as the California Budget Act of 2025.
In a statement following her vote, Sen. Dahle criticized the approach taken by members of the majority party during the floor debate. She noted that they attributed California’s budget shortfall to federal government actions and current administration policies. According to Dahle, this perspective overlooks what she describes as years of poor planning and overspending at the state level. “Shifting blame is not leadership—it’s denial,” she stated.
Dahle argued that the proposed budget does not align with the values or priorities of most Californians, particularly those residing in rural areas. She highlighted its failure to adequately fund Proposition 36, despite its approval by voters across all counties in California. While acknowledging some one-time funding allocations in the budget, Dahle emphasized that it does not meet long-term needs for public safety and rehabilitation services.
She also pointed out disparities in how resources are allocated between urban and rural communities within the state. While expressing support for provisions aimed at assisting students affected by fire-related trauma in Southern California urban areas, Dahle stressed that similar challenges exist in rural regions but often receive less attention and support.
Dahle concluded her statement by calling for honest leadership focused on responsible decision-making and transparent governance: “Californians deserve honest leadership—leaders who acknowledge hard truths and make responsible choices.”
