U.S. Bureau of Land Management issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.

Crews from the Bureau of Land Management plan to burn piles of brush and small trees in a project area near Douglas City during the week of Jan. 27-31.  Crew members will light the piles only when weather and fuel moisture allow for safe and successful burning.

The project area is along Reading Creek Road about five miles southeast of Douglas City.

Smoke will be visible during ignitions between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., daily, with light residual smoke and hot ash remaining for up to a day after ignition.  Smoke may be visible from Indian Creek and Reading Creek roads and from rural residences within a mile of the project area.

The material was piled during thinning projects designed to improve forest health and to remove hazardous fuels that could feed wildfires.

The BLM is committed to keeping public landscapes healthy and productive. More information is available from the BLM Redding Field Office, 530-224-2100.
