Job Description

Position: Civil CAD Tech

Summary Job Description: Prepare drawings and topographical and relief maps used in civil engineering projects, such site plan designs, grading and erosion control plans.

Job Duties as assigned:

Produce drawings using computer-assisted drafting systems (CAD).

Draw maps, diagrams, and profiles, using cross-sections and surveys, to represent elevations, topographical contours, subsurface formations, drainages and structures.

Draft plans and detailed drawings from sketches or notes for structures, installations, and construction projects such as farms, sewage disposal systems, erosion control plans and grading plans.

Locate utilities, easements, property lines and other information on plans;

Prepare legal descriptions and plans of properties;*

May act as a survey party member utilizing survey instruments;

Operate computer printers and copying machines;*

Perform a variety of related office or field tasks to gather, analyze and record data; prepare a variety of memos, letters and other correspondence related to plan reviews.

As assigned, set-up, modify, update, and maintain CAD standards; set-up and troubleshoot CAD computer stations for the configuration of CAD programs and file sharing, plotting, and third party programs; train staff in the use of AutoCAD and related software as necessary.

Perform related assignments as necessary.

Requirements

Tools and Equipment Used: Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and data base and computer-aided-design software; geographical information system software; standard drafting tools; pipe locator; engineering calculator; motor vehicle; phone; mobile radio, and survey equipment. Physical Demands: Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and stinky bathrooms. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Terminology, methods, practices and techniques of drafting; drafting nomenclature and symbols; computer aided design (CAD); terminology, methods and practices of geographical information system software (GIS); trigonometry as applied to the computation of angles, areas, distances and traverses; surveying techniques and practices; engineering maps and records; policies and procedures similar to those utilized by civil engineers. Ability to: Make complex engineering computations; perform complex engineering drafting work; reduce, interpret and apply field notes in performance of drafting duties; perform duties with a minimum of supervision

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Two years work experience performing duties similar to those above

Working knowledge of CAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite of Programs Education: High school graduation or equivalent supplemented by relevant college level courses in civil engineering, architecture, mathematics, drafting, or other related field.

EIT Preferred

Additional Requirement: Possession of a valid California Driver License.

Rate of pay $17-$20 per hour DOE
