Cmc

Copper Mountain College issued the following announcement.

The Joshua Tree National Park Association recently announced Copper Mountain College’s Ms. Meghan Udell as the 2020 recipient of the Pasadena Garden Club’s Minerva

Hamilton Hoyt Internship.

Now in its third year, the internship is awarded annually to a student from CMC majoring in Environmental Studies or General Sciences and maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better. Ms.

Udell’s internship will begin in the Spring semester, which starts January 29, 2021, and will end May 26, 2021. She will work under the supervision of Joshua Tree National Park

employees in the Science and Resource Stewardship division and will perform a mix of fieldwork, data entry, information compilation, and scientific research. Biology Professor Dr.

Paul Delaney shared, “This is a great opportunity for her to network with environmental professionals and study in Joshua Tree National Park”.

Minerva Hamilton Hoyt was one of Pasadena Garden Club’s most esteemed members, and is credited for being instrumental in the establishment of Joshua Tree National Park.

The internship honors her legacy by promoting environmental quality through educational programs and actions in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

“The knowledge I would gain from this internship will definitely be used in my future as I am hoping to obtain a career in conservation,” stated Ms. Udell. “I am passionate about

natural conservation and understand the value of protecting unique and vulnerable areas, much like Minerva Hoyt did. One of my main goals is to protect those areas in need,

whether they be biologically unique or simply endangered.”

Copper Mountain College congratulates Ms. Meghan Udell on being selected for this prestigious internship.
