Shasta County hosts hazardous and electronic waste collection event

Shasta County will host a household hazardous and electronic waste collection event on Saturday, August 10, 2024. The event will take place at Burney Jr/Sr High School, located at 37571 Mountain View Road in Burney, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The collection is open exclusively to Shasta County households. Accepted items include paint products (both latex and oil-based), motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, solvents, cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, batteries (including car batteries), pool chemicals, sharps, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, propane and fire extinguisher cylinders, aerosol cans, and other products with warning labels such as "Keep out of the Reach of Children," "Caution," "Danger," "toxic," and "Flammable." Electronic waste such as computers, TVs, phones, radios, printers will also be accepted. A new addition this year includes nicotine vape pens/e-cigarettes.

Items not accepted include trash; yard waste/brush; tires; appliances (including microwaves and toaster ovens); explosives; ammunition; radioactive materials (such as smoke detectors); bulky items like couches; biological waste; or business waste. There is a limit of five gallons or fifty pounds of hazardous waste per vehicle. This limit excludes e-waste.
