Free household hazardous and electronic waste collection in Anderson on August 24

Residents of Shasta County are invited to participate in a free household hazardous and electronic waste collection event on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The event will be held at Anderson New Technology High School, located at 2098 North Street, Anderson, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The collection is open exclusively to Shasta County households. Accepted items include paint and paint products (both latex and oil-based), motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, solvents, cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, various types of batteries including car batteries, pool chemicals, sharps, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, propane and fire extinguisher cylinders, aerosol cans, and other products with warning labels such as "Keep out of the Reach of Children," "Caution," "Danger," "toxic," and "flammable." Electronic waste such as computers, TVs, phones, radios, printers will also be accepted. Additionally this year for the first time nicotine vape pens/e-cigarettes will be collected.

Items not accepted at the event include trash; yard waste or brush; tires; appliances such as microwaves and toaster ovens; explosives; ammunition; radioactive materials like smoke detectors; bulky items like couches; biological waste; or business waste.

Participants are asked to limit their hazardous waste to five gallons or 50 pounds per vehicle. This limit does not apply to electronic waste.
