Senator Brian Dahle has provided an update to his constituents, highlighting various legislative and community activities. The Legislature will reconvene on August 14th after the recess.
Dahle honored retired Lieutenant Commander Lou Conter, a constituent from his district, for his 28 years of service in the United States Navy. At 101 years old, Conter is the only living service member among the 335 officers, sailors, and marines who survived the 1941 attack on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor.
Dahle's bill, SB 787, was signed into law and aims to bolster the economy for local businesses in Nevada County. He also reported that several bills perceived as harmful to public safety and business climate have been stopped:
- AB 93: Hinders law enforcement’s ability to conduct search warrants.
- SB 584: Adds a new tax on Airbnb and other short-term rentals.
- AB 742: Bans law enforcement from using K-9 dogs.
- AB 1563: Makes it difficult to obtain groundwater well permits.
The Senator announced a new District Office in Chico with a grand opening event scheduled for August 11th from 9 AM to 12 PM.
Several resources were highlighted:
- Assistance for those who lost Medi-Cal coverage through Covered California.
- Free health care training by the California Department of Aging.
- Expedited licenses and fee waivers for military spouses by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
- Funding opportunities through the Regional Resilience Grant Program with applications due by August 29th.
- Resources available to Butte County residents impacted by winter storms with an application deadline extended to September 1st by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Upcoming events include public comments on CAL FIRE's Fire Hazard Severity Zone Maps until August 9th and various county fairs throughout August and early September. The U.S. Forest Service is also proposing changes to recreation fees at locations across Tahoe National Forest with comments open until September 15th.
In district activities, Team Dahle toured Feather River Watershed restoration sites hosted by PlumasCorp and attended various meetings including Tehama County groundwater commission meeting. The completion of Cohasset Road improvement project in Chico was celebrated alongside Congressman LaMalfa, Braden Pisani of Assemblyman Gallagher’s Office, and Mayor Andrew Coolidge.
Team Dahle also participated in events such as Shasta Environmental Alliance field day tour, Seneca Healthcare District hospital groundbreaking in Chester, recognition of Korean War Veterans Armistice Day in Shasta County, tour of Dignity Connected Living in Redding, Blessing of the Grapes event at Abbey of Our Lady of New Clairvaux in Vina, retirement celebration for Marjeanne Stone at Empire Recovery Center in Redding, and open house for Emergent's first home built using innovative technology.
Senator Dahle represents California's 1st Senate District which includes all or portions of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, Shasta counties along with deferred areas of Tehama, Butte, Colusa and Glenn counties.
