Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has proposed a significant rate increase for its customers, amounting to nearly $40 per month or just under $500 annually. This proposal is part of the General Rate Case application that PG&E is required to file every four years with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

PG&E stated that the primary reason for this proposed rate hike is to fund the undergrounding of electrical lines, which they argue will enhance safety. However, the CPUC has questioned these efforts and suggested exploring other alternatives.

Customers are encouraged to submit public comments regarding these changes before the CPUC's voting meeting on November 2.

For further inquiries or assistance, customers can visit the CPUC’s website.

California's 1st Senate District includes all or parts of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Shasta counties. It also serves deferred areas of Tehama, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties.
