Free household hazardous and electronic waste collection event in Shingletown

Shasta County will host a free household hazardous and electronic waste collection event on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event will take place at Black Butte Junior High School, located at 7948 Ponderosa Way in Shingletown, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This service is available exclusively to Shasta County households.

Items accepted include paint and paint products (both latex and oil-based), motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, solvents, cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, batteries (including car batteries), pool chemicals, sharps, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, propane and fire extinguisher cylinders, aerosol cans, and other products with warning labels such as "Keep out of the Reach of Children," "Caution," "Danger," "toxic," and "flammable." Electronic waste such as computers, TVs, phones, radios, printers will also be accepted. A new addition this year is the acceptance of nicotine vape pens and e-cigarettes.

Items not accepted at the event include trash, yard waste/brush, tires, appliances (including microwaves and toaster ovens), explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials (such as smoke detectors), bulky items like couches or biological waste. Business waste will also not be accepted.

There is a limit of five gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous waste per vehicle; however e-waste is excluded from this limit.
