Plumas Strong has been recognized as the 1st Senatorial District’s 2022 Nonprofit of the Year. The announcement was made by Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) in celebration of California Nonprofits Day.
Plumas Strong provides support and enrichment to residents of Indian Valley and Plumas County. The organization focuses on community development and relief programs.
“We are truly grateful for all of the hard work and dedication that our community has poured into this effort. Without the love and generosity of our neighbors and friends, none of this would be possible,” said Ryan Schramel, Chair of Plumas Strong.
Before the 2021 Dixie Fire, which devastated several communities in Plumas County, Plumas Strong served as a center for community development. The organization supported local programs such as Greenville Community Garden, Youth Summit, Community Playground Equipment, Kidfest, Copper Creek Camp, and Streetscape. It also led the Rural to Rural program, which offers students from Plumas County opportunities to experience life in third-world countries while promoting economic development and education. Through this program, students have traveled to Honduras, Haiti, Uganda, and Mexico.
Following the Dixie Fire, Plumas Strong shifted its focus to relief and rebuilding efforts. These efforts include food distribution, gas assistance, temporary housing programs, and furniture drives for those relocating to new homes. Additionally, Plumas Strong collaborated with the Greenville High School Alumni Fund to provide $1,000 to all graduates who lost property in the fire.
“The incredible work by all those contributing to Plumas Strong, including Chair Ryan Schramel and Vice-Chair Sue Weber has been truly inspiring and serves as a source of pride to all members of the community,” said Senator Dahle.
California's 1st Senate District includes parts or all of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, Shasta counties as well as portions of Tehama Butte Colusa Glenn counties.
