The Shasta County Department of Resource Management is hosting a free waste tire collection event for county residents on November 2, 2024. The event will take place at Redding Christian School in Palo Cedro from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
This initiative allows residents to dispose of their used tires without cost. According to the department, nearly 13,000 tires were collected at similar events last year due to community participation. "Each tire disposed of properly not only reduces health and safety issues in our community but also helps clear properties of unsightly tires," said the department.
Residents can bring up to nine tires without needing a transportation authorization letter. For those bringing between ten and twenty tires, an authorization letter is required. Passenger car tires and those on rims are accepted, but large truck tires, equipment tires, off-road tires, or those from businesses that generate waste tires will not be accepted.
This event is funded by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) through the Local Government Waste Tire Amnesty Grant Program. The department notes that funding is limited and may end acceptance of free tire disposal at any time.
Residents who discover illegally dumped tires on their property are encouraged to report it to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office as there might be grants available for cleanup assistance.
For more information about this event or future ones, residents can contact the Department of Resource Management via email or phone or follow updates on their Recycle Shasta Facebook page.
