Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch in Trinity County has been awarded a $61,428 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). The funding will support programs focused on educating parents and caregivers about the correct use of child safety seats. The initiative will run through September 2026.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant to support our child safety seat education program,” said Elizabeth Hamilton, Director of Trinity County Health and Human Services. “Proper use of child car seats can dramatically reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash. With this funding, we can provide hands-on training, resources, and support so that families have the knowledge and tools to keep their children safe.”

The grant will be used for community outreach events, educational classes, distribution of child safety seats at no cost to families in need, and training on how to install and use the seats properly. The program also includes Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) training and recertification courses. Partnerships with local organizations are planned to help reach underserved communities.

Funding for this effort comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
