Trinity County Community Development has released a draft application for the State of California’s Prohousing Designation Program. The draft was made public on December 12, 2025, and will be open for comments until January 12, 2026.

The county has scheduled a study session during the December 16 Board of Supervisors meeting to review the draft application. This session aims to give residents an opportunity to discuss the document and offer feedback before it moves forward.

After the public comment period ends, county staff will revise the application based on input received. The Board of Supervisors is expected to hold a public hearing later to decide whether to approve a resolution that would allow staff to submit the final application to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).

The Prohousing Designation Program is intended for jurisdictions that take additional steps beyond state housing law requirements in order to increase housing production. Those that receive this designation can apply for funding through the Prohousing Incentive Program, which supports affordable housing projects.

According to Trinity County officials, “The Prohousing Designation application requires Trinity County to identify housing policies and programs that have been completed or are planned for completion within the next three years.”

The complete draft application is available online. Members of the public can submit comments via the General Plan 2050 website or by emailing info.planning@trinitycounty.org. Community members are encouraged to participate in reviewing and commenting on the proposal.
