State Senator Brian Dahle has voiced his concerns regarding SB 1227, a bill that provides exemptions from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for projects in downtown San Francisco. The bill aims to streamline the judicial review process for these projects based on their environmental and labor requirements, as well as creating a welfare exemption from property tax under certain criteria.
In response to SB 1227, Senator Dahle stated, "Waiving CEQA may temporarily spur the revitalization of a once-thriving San Francisco, but it will not fix the underlying policy and social issues that have wrought the current decline of this city. Instead, the Legislature should consider passing holistic CEQA reform so that projects are not continually held up by the CEQA review process."
Furthermore, it was highlighted that California's 1st Senate District, represented by Senator Dahle, encompasses a significant area, including "all or portions of 11 counties, including Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Shasta." Additionally, the district serves deferred areas of Tehama, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties.
