CITY OF DUNSMUIR: Dunsmuir has been Awarded Low Interest Loans and Grants to Improve the City’s Aging Water Supply System

Dunsmuir

City of Dunsmuir issued the following announcement.

US Department of Agriculture Rural Development program for infrastructure improvements has awarded the City a combination of low interest loan and grants totaling of

$8,421,000 to replace or improve the City’s aging water infrastructure. Dunsmuir residents may recall that we undertook a water rate study in 2016. You may also recall that the

subsequent increase in water rates adopted in November of 2017 resulted in two outcomes that directly led to the loans and grant awards: 1) The increase allowed the City to

accumulate enough revenue to begin planning and design for major water system replacement projects, and; 2) Raise water rates to the minimum threshold of 1.5% of median

household incomes in Dunsmuir to allow us to minimally qualify to apply for grants and loans. The key takeaway is that we are reaping the benefits of the aforementioned modest

increase in water rates. Project Details: The work has been awarded to SnL Group, Inc. located in Redding, California. This Project will involve the installation of: 24,000 Linear

Feet (LF) of new water mains 7,400 LF of water service lines 40 new fire hydrants 1,300 new water meters The Project will take up to two years to complete with the assumption

that there will be occasional construction due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances Some street detours and closures will occur during construction hours Check out the

following City websites for updated construction and traffic information as this project progresses http://www.ci.dunsmuir.ca.us/water-main-replacement-project
