CITY OF REDDING: Treated wood waste will now be considered Hazardous Waste

Redding ca logo

City of Redding issued the following announcement.

As of January 1st 2021, Treated Wood Waste will be designated as Hazardous Waste.  This means it cannot be disposed of in Class II or Class III landfills, and will need to be

disposed of properly as Hazardous Waste.  Currently there are only 3 Class I landfills in California and the closet of the 3 is 6 hours drive from Redding.  Until the state has a more

suitable way for processing this material, the City of Redding is developing a plan to comply with the regulation, but also serve the public’s needs accordingly.

As of January 1st, 2021, all treated wood waste will need to be separated from other wastes, so it can be staged at a drop-off location within the transfer station.  This is so staff

can handle it and package it for shipping as required.  We are currently exploring the best financial and operational process at this time.  As of now Treated Wood Waste will be

charged at the current Construction waste rate.  If the Treated Wood Waste is not separated, then the load of waste will not be accepted.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Solid Waste Customer Service at the Transfer Station: 530-224-6212
