Senator Brian Dahle has expressed concern over a recent proposal by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that could potentially lead to a significant increase in electricity costs for consumers. During a Budget Subcommittee meeting, Senator Dahle criticized the majority party for attempting to influence the CPUC on the policy issue, which could have far-reaching implications for residents of California.
In a press release, Senator Dahle emphasized the need for careful consideration of the proposed program, which would require certain utilities to purchase excess power from community solar facilities at a premium cost. He warned that the CPUC's decision to reject a proposal favored by Democrats and solar advocates could result in a substantial financial burden for those without access to community solar, potentially adding up to $64 billion in costs.
"The Legislature needs to look at these projects and make sure they are not harming non-participants. This is a policy issue and shouldn’t even be discussed in a budget subcommittee. Sacramento Dems need to stop supporting policies that are bankrupting constituents. Californians have a right to safe, affordable, and reliable energy," stated Senator Dahle.
Senator Dahle represents California's 1st Senate District, which encompasses a significant portion of the state, including 11 counties and deferred areas of additional counties. His remarks highlight the importance of prioritizing the interests of all Californians when making decisions that could impact the affordability and reliability of energy resources.
