Senator Dahle has issued a statement expressing concerns over the Legislature's recently passed 2024-25 budget plan. He criticized several aspects of the budget, highlighting what he perceives as misplaced priorities amid a significant budget deficit.
"The Democrats' decision to allocate over $1 billion to the high-speed rail, but reduce millions in funding for housing support for veterans is deeply disappointing," Dahle stated. "We should be supporting those who have selflessly sacrificed so much for our freedoms."
Dahle also raised issues regarding the diversion of the MCO tax, which he believes should bolster California's healthcare delivery system. He warned that this could potentially lead to more hospital closures statewide.
"Additionally, while crime continues to ravage businesses and neighborhoods, the majority party chose to decrease funding to the California Department of Corrections, likely leading to the early release of even more criminals," Dahle noted.
The Senator further expressed concern about increased taxes and regulations on businesses under this budget proposal. He also mentioned the loss of funding for broadband and middle-mile infrastructure in communities that need it most.
"Overall, it’s a budget proposal that reflects the priorities of very few and ultimately hurts everyday Californians," Dahle concluded.
California's 1st Senate District includes all or portions of 15 counties: Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, Shasta; and parts of Tehama, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties.
