California's 1st Senate District contains all or portions of 15 counties, including Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Shasta. Also serving deferred areas of Tehama, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties.
Senator Brian Dahle has called attention to the local impact of Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in these regions. In a recent statement via the Union Newspaper of Grass Valley on October 30th, he emphasized the significant disruptions caused by PSPS events.
"These power shutoffs have far-reaching consequences for our communities," said Dahle. "From economic losses to critical interruptions in daily life and safety concerns."
Dahle urged for a special legislative session to address these issues comprehensively. He highlighted that the current measures are insufficient to mitigate the adverse effects experienced by residents and businesses alike.
"We need immediate action from our state government to find sustainable solutions," Dahle stated. "A special session would allow us to focus solely on this pressing issue."
The senator's call for a special session reflects growing concerns among constituents who have faced repeated power outages. The PSPS events are part of efforts by utility companies to prevent wildfires but have led to unintended hardships.
"Without prompt legislative intervention," Dahle warned, "we risk further economic damage and potential safety hazards for our citizens."
The response from other state legislators and government officials remains awaited as discussions about possible actions continue.
