Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) has urged Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a proclamation to convene the Legislature to address the ongoing crisis involving wildfires, power outages, and homeowners insurance cancellations.
The announcement highlighted the real impacts of Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in local communities. An event will be held on October 30, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at California Organics located at 135 Argall Way, Nevada City, CA. The event will feature Senator Brian Dahle and Chris Kysar, owner of California Organics.
Dahle emphasized that Californians are facing significant hardships due to these issues:
- Medically compromised residents rely on power for life-saving equipment.
- Residents and small businesses are losing thousands of dollars in groceries and products.
- Wells cannot pump fresh water, leading to unsanitary conditions for people and animals.
- With weather changes, many areas affected by PSPS are experiencing freezing conditions and are unable to heat their homes.
"If there were ever an extraordinary situation in which the legislature should be called back to Sacramento to solve a pressing issue this is it. We cannot go another week like this. It’s untenable, it’s inhumane, it’s cruel, and it is our duty to address these issues immediately. Waiting until January is not an option," said Brian Dahle (R-Bieber).
California's 1st Senate District includes all or portions of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, Shasta counties as well as parts of Tehama, Butte, Colusa and Glenn counties.
