Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) expressed his disapproval of Governor Newsom's May Revision budget proposal, citing concerns over the state's financial situation. Dahle criticized Newsom for what he perceives as the governor's national ambitions leading to a significant exodus of people and businesses from California. This mass departure, according to Dahle, has resulted in a substantial revenue shortfall from personal and corporate income taxes.
"You can't have a good government without a strong private sector. Plain and simple, people are being priced out of California from bad policies and mismanagement," said Dahle.
The senator further claimed that Californians are growing weary of what he described as the governor's attempts to manipulate public perception. He referred to "the spin on the tourism numbers" and the May Revision budget proposal, which he believes is misleading about a potential tax increase. He also cited concerns about a lack of a thriving state economy and the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), which he feels further undermine public trust.
"Today's revision was a hollow gesture, at best," Dahle stated. He urged the majority party to collaborate with Republicans to prioritize spending, avoid unnecessary debt, maintain critical services, and incentivize businesses to return to California. According to him, these steps are crucial for California to regain its footing and thrive once again.
California's 1st Senate District, represented by Senator Dahle, encompasses all or parts of 11 counties including Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou and Shasta. It also serves deferred areas of Tehama, Butte, Colusa and Glenn counties.
