Senator Brian Dahle has voiced strong opposition to Senate Bill 1327, characterizing it as a tax rather than a fee. "Let’s call this measure (SB 1327) for what it is—it’s a tax, not a fee," Dahle stated. He emphasized the challenges businesses face in California and the importance of maintaining a robust private sector for effective governance.

Dahle expressed concerns about the implications of SB 1327 on press independence. "I fully support an independent press, and making them beholden to the government doesn’t feel right," he said. He also highlighted the exodus of businesses from California over the past three years, attributing it to policies similar to SB 1327. "California has lost an unprecedented number of businesses to other states in the last 3 years, and will continue to do so with policies like this."

California's 1st Senate District, represented by Dahle, includes all or parts of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Shasta counties. It also serves deferred areas in Tehama, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties.
